For anyone living in Alberta, Monday February 20 2012 will be the annual Family Day holiday, meaning that Family Day Weekend from Feb 18 to 20 2012 is a great opportunity for 2 or 3 days of skiing or snowboarding, or simply visiting Banff National Park for a long weekend. If you have previously had the pleasure of spending Family Day Weekend in Banff, you will know that it’s one of the busiest weekends of the winter for Banff hotels, which means that it’s highly recommended that you make your hotel reservations as early as possible, while there are still rooms available.
At the time of writing there are still rooms available at Banff hotels throughout the weekend however availability for a one night stay on the night of Saturday February 18 is becoming limited, and there may be more options open if you select a stay of 2 or more nights.
Click here to check current rates and availability for hotels in Banff

No Vacancy?
If you are unable to find suitable accommodation in Banff, you could consider staying at a hotel in Canmore, which is an easy 20 minute drive away from Banff and well located for skiing at Banff’s three ski resorts as well as at Nakiska. On holiday weekends it is generally easier to find availability at hotels in Canmore, possibly at a lower rate!
Click here to check current rates and availability for hotels in Canmore

Another option would be to try hotels in Lake Louise which lies 60km west of Banff, and is of course ideally located for skiing at Lake Louise Mountain Resort.
Click here to check current rates and availability for hotels in Lake Louise

Because it is such a busy weekend for hotels in Banff, most accommodations do not offer any Family Day weekend packages or special deals, with the busiest night for lodging likely to be Saturday February 18, however accommodation for Friday February 17, and Sunday February 19 is also sure to eventually fill up.
Once you have booked your Banff hotel, you should consider making your other arrangements for the holiday weekend, such as booking tours or making restaurant reservations, and if you are planning to ski, it is strongly recommended that you arrive at the ski resorts as early as possible so that you can park your car, purchase your ski pass and head up the lifts before the crowds arrive.
Banff is a wonderful place to spend the Family Day holiday, and if you plan ahead you will find the ideal hotel in Banff to experience a truly memorable weekend.

Most hotels in Banff have some sort of hot tub or whirlpool, but several Banff accommodations offer a lot more than that, with some hotels offering swimming pools and others having larger hot pools with unique designs or in special locations. Below you will find a comprehensive list of hotels in Banff with pools that we regard to be a level above the average hot tub.

The Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets has one of the most popular swimming pools for families with 2 indoor waterslides plus whirlpools. These pools in the Aquatic Centre are free of charge to hotel guests, while the mineral pool with waterfalls in the Willow Stream Spa as well an indoor and outdoor hot tub are available for an additional charge (currently $69 per day for hotel guests).

The Banff Park Lodge has an indoor heated swimming pool as well as a large Jacuzzi.
Find a Room

For hotels in Banff, New Years is a much busier time than Christmas in Banff and early reservations are strongly recommended. Although many Banff accommodations do not offer specific packages for New Years, you can be sure that they are all open for business, and those with restaurants will generally have special dinners or festive menus available.
*Note that at this busy time you will generally find better availability for a 2 night stay or longer.
All pet friendly hotels in Banff will charge you a daily fee for your pet ranging from $10-$35 per pet per day, and we have provided links to the hotels’ pet policies where available. It is advisable to contact the individual Banff accommodations directly to find out details of any rules or restrictions regarding pets staying at the property.

These Banff ski packages include Tri-Area lift tickets, which can be used at any of Banff’s 3 mountain resorts, namely Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, or Mount Norquay, and considering a day pass can cost over $75 per person, the prices for the ski and hotel packages are very reasonable indeed:

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel has two different ski and stay specials to choose from this winter, each of which includes passes plus accommodations at Banff’s most famous luxury hotel.
If you are just looking for a room and a lift ticket, the Ski & Play for Free is the most economical of their Banff ski packages. Starting at $299 per night the package includes your overnight accommodation, 2 Tri-Area ski passes per room per night, free storage for your skis and boards, 15% discount on equipment rentals at the Banff Springs Ski Shop, plus bus transportation to the resorts. If you do not wish to hit the slopes, you can replace each ski day with a $100 resort credit per room per night.
The Luxury Ski the Canadian Rockies Package includes your overnight accommodation, 2 Tri-Area lift tickets per room per night, transportation to the mountain, daily breakfast (a la carte or buffet), plus a daily pass to the Willow Stream Spa. Rates for this special start at $419 per night.
The above hotel & ski packages at the Fairmont Banff Springs are available from November 11 2011 to May 23 2012, subject to availability.

The Mount Royal Hotel has a 1 day ski deal available which includes 1 night’s accommodation, breakfast at Tony Romas, a 1 day Tri Area lift pass for skiing at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise or Mount Norquay, plus bus transportation to and from the hill. Prices for this Banff ski package start at $140 per person based on double occupancy of a standard room.

Banff Lodging Company is offering specials at several of its Banff accommodations which include lodging, breakfast, plus one Tri-Area lift ticket per adult per day. Their nightly rates based on 2 adults sharing a room start at $270 for a superior room at the Inns of Banff, $278 for a superior room at the Ptarmigan Inn, $298 for a one bedroom condo at the Rocky Mountain Resort and $298 for a standard room at the Caribou Lodge & Spa.

The Banff Park Lodge has specials throughout the winter including hotel and lift ticket, with prices ranging from $104 per person per day for a 5 or more night stay for early and late season skiing and from Jan 3 to Feb 16 2011, up to $164 per person per day for a 3 night stay or longer over the Christmas and New Year holidays. These rates are based on double occupancy, are valid Sun-Fri and a supplement starting from $30 per room is added for Saturday night stays. Ski shuttle transportation is extra, costing $5 per person per day.

For lift ticket & hotel deals in Banff with condo or suite style accommodations with a kitchen, the Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets has several options including a Ski & Stay package which includes your accommodation plus one Tri-Area lift pass per adult per night plus one ‘cook your own’ breakfast delivered to your condo. Rates vary depending on dates of travel and accommodation type, for example a one bedroom condo from Jan 8 to Feb 15 2012 is advertised at the reduced rate of $281 per night. This package does NOT include transportation to the resorts.

* The above Banff package rates are generally based on double occupancy and are subject to applicable taxes, subject to availability, subject to change without notice, and blackout dates may apply. For current information and for reservations, please contact the Banff hotels directly.

For many Banff locals September is the best month of the summer. The weather is often quite settled, the crowds have died down, the mosquitoes have all but disappeared, and with some snow already falling on the high peaks, the mountain views seem more impressive than ever. Another reason why Banff is so attractive in September is the fact that there’s a good chance you’ll find a great hotel deal, and to help you find that deal we have scoured the websites of several Banff accommodations to see which hotels are offering special rates during September 2010:

Brewster’s Mountain Lodge is offering up to 40% off regular rates until September 30. For details of this and other last minute specials offered by the Banff Lodging Co, click here.

From September 6-30, the Rimrock Resort is offering a rate of $178 per night for Sun-Thurs, and $188 for Fridays and Saturdays, with blackouts on Sept 12-14 & Sept 21-25.

The August Long Weekend is just around the corner and if you haven’t booked your Banff hotel yet, then you’d better hurry as availability is dwindling fast. We did some research ourselves and found a few Banff hotels that still had some vacancies for the long weekend, but be warned, rooms are being booked up quickly, especially for Saturday night.
Here is what we found today, July 28:

The Banff Park Lodge still had a limited number of rooms available for Saturday night, either a superior room for $279 or a Deluxe Jacuzzi Room for $339. These rooms were also available at the same rates for Friday and Sunday nights, although availability for Sunday was also limited.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel still had a limited number of rooms available for Saturday night, for example a Fairmont Room for $379, a Deluxe Room for $439, or a Deluxe View Room for $479. These rooms were also available for Friday and Sunday at the same rate.

The Mount Royal Hotel was already fully booked for Saturday night but was able to offer a standard room on Friday night for $179 or on Sunday night for $199.

The Banff International Hotel only had single rooms available for Saturday night, but was able to offer a standard room on both Friday and Sunday nights for $169.

If you are looking for a suite with a kitchen, the Hidden Ridge Resort still had a limited number of one bedroom condos available for a minimum 2 night stay on Friday and Saturday night, starting at $219 per night.

Enjoy your weekend in the Canadian Rockies!

*The above rates are subject to applicable taxes, subject to availability and subject to change. In most cases the rate is based on 2 people sharing the room. To confirm rates and availability, please contact your Banff hotel or Banff condo directly. The August Long Weekend is sure to be busy in Banff National Park and early reservations are strongly recommended.
